Oak Harbor is experiencing a Garry oak revival! It’s a new day for Garry oaks in the greater Oak Harbor area as they come to the forefront of our appreciation recently in two important ways!
First, there is a brand-new piece of art in Oak Harbor, titled “Autumn Leaves”. It is placed prominently on Highway 20 near North Whidbey Middle School. Garry oak leaves are depicted in a metal sculpture swirling in the wind. According to a City Staffer, final landscaping remains to be done around the piece. Still, you can get a peek while you are cruising by!
Second, we noticed the upcoming Oak Harbor Music Festival, a huge cultural event to be sure, chose to use Garry oak leaves incorporated to form the shape of a guitar as their poster, t-shirt, and general advertising emblem this year! How cool is that?!
Speaking of the Music Festival, Oak Harbor Garry Oak Society is excited to be an arts and crafts vendor at the 3-day event, Sept. 1-3, 2017 on SE Pioneer Way. Come find us, say hello, and chose that one-of-a-kind special Garry oak wood piece as a souvenir of the day. To find out more about Music Fest, go to http://www.oakharborfestival.com/.
